An earthquake with a magnitude of about 6.9 struck southern Japan near the city of Miyazaki on Kyushu island at 9:19 p.m on Monday evening, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake caused a tremor of a magnitude of 5, which was felt about seven miles southeast of Miyazaki and over 22 miles deep.
Japan’s Meteorological Agency (JMA) found this earthquake is not related to the nankai trough.
But urged residents to be alert of a possible Tsunami in Miyazaki and Kochi prefecture.
There are no casualties as a result of the quake and nuclear power plants remain unaffected.
