The eThekwini Municipality has confirmed an improvement of water supply to the northern parts of EThekwini Municipality, due to a reservoir based in the UMngeni-UThukela Water’s Durban Heights Waterworks.
“This is intended to bypass the section of the Northern Aqueduct suspected to have the restriction which has not been identified” a statement from the Municipality said.
Yesterday morning, the City said it suspected fiddling of its air valve in a water pipeline and another vandalized. This could have led to interruptions in water supplied to uMhlanga, Durban North and surrounds.
“Our technical teams are continuously monitoring reservoirs to determine if there will be any improvements to the supply of water to Umhlanga, Durban North and surrounding areas. The water flow will be monitored throughout the evening.”
The City also said major water leaks or burst pipes supplying these areas were not detected during its investigation.
Although reservoirs in lower levels have improved, the City asked its residents to use water sparingly.
Affected areas include the following : Durban North High-Level Reservoir: Redhill, Durban North Area, Beachway, Umgeni Park, Athlone, Japanese Gardens, and Riverside, Durban North, Low-Level Reservoir: Beachway and Riverside, Virginia 1 & 2 Reservoir: Glen Anil, Glen Hill, uMhlanga Rocks Drive, parts of Umgeni Park, Blackburn Road, Parkhill, and certain roads in Effingham, UMhlanga North Reservoir: UMhlanga CBD, UMhlanga South Reservoir: UMhlanga CBD and La Lucia, Sunningdale Reservoir and Towers: Sunningdale, La Lucia, La Lcuia Mall, Glen Ashley, Glen Anil, Somerset Park, UMhlanga and La Lucia Ridge.
