A conclusive report on drinking water in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) was released yesterday by the Human Rights Commission.
The report claims there are ongoing human rights violations in the UGU District Municipality (and other areas in KZN). The Commission holds UGU, the Department of Water and Sanitation, as well as COGTA (Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs), accountable for failure to deliver basic water services to residents.
A blurb on social media by the Commission said “human rights violations are being committed in our District by the State against our citizens.”
It continued to say “years of representations and submissions to the SAHRC have eventually borne fruit and we can now hold the State and it’s political masters to account!”
