uMngeni-uThukela Water Board announced yesterday, that it will implement a planned 12-hour maintenance shutdown, to repair its large diameter pipeline, which supplies water to Empangeni and surrounding areas.
The shutdown is expected to start at 7:00am this morning until this evening at 7:00pm.
The Water Board said in a statement that work to be undertaken, includes repairs to a leaking manifold and the replacement of a weir pipeline flow meter.
The City of uMhlathuze will also be conducting its own repairs on leaks on the rising main to the Maguzulu Reservoir.
Certain areas of Empangeni that are supplied from the Pearce Crescent Reservoir 1, 2 and 3 are expected to have water interruptions today.
UMhlathuze Municipality said affected households are likely to be in the Empangeni CBD and surrounds, as well as Madlebe North and South.
Elsewhere at the Alfred Duma Local Municipality, an electrical failure at the Spioenkop Dam Pump Station late yesterday afternoon, led to interruptions.
Water levels are low in the reservoir.
As a result, the Municipality said it would implement water shedding from yesterday at 19h00 until 5h00 this morning. This is expected to build up water levels in the reservoir.
Households affected are in Observation Hill, Mkamba Gardens, Limit Hill, Modelkloof, parts of Steadville, Saint Chad’s, Egerton and Danskraal Industrial area.
