Water supply in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is under severe strain. This is despite the restoration of electricity to the Elandsjagt and Kariega water treatment works.
The City said a burst on the 500mm bulk water pipeline near Joe Slovo West, significantly affected water transfer to the Chelsea Reservoir and FM Tower.
This has further compromised water supply to the western suburbs.
In addition, the failure of a final high-lift pump at the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works reduced pumping capacity from approximately 200 megalitres per day to 180 megalitres per day.
Repair work is currently underway, with operational teams supplementing supply through the low-lift pump station.
The Chelsea Reservoir remains critically low at 8%, while the one at the airport is at 7%.
The City said pumping operations were adjusted to improve supply while teams continue to monitor the system.
The Gelvandale Reservoir is also at a low of 5%.
The Emerald Hill reservoir is at 12%.
Heatherbank is at 2% and Rosedale at 0%.
Affected areas are Rosedale, Kabah and Langa, Mountain View, Fairbridge Heights, Motherwell, Wells Estate, Bluewater Bay, Walmer Township, Walmer (7th–14th Avenue), Newton Park, Schauderville, Greenacres, Perridgevale, Parsons Hill, Mill Park, Linkside, Mount Croix, Rowallan Park, Bridgemeade, Hunters Retreat, Kabega Park, Sherwood, Lorraine, Malabar, Gelvandale, Bloemendal Extensions, Chatty, Booysens Park, Walmer Heights, Greenshields Park, Fairview, Walmer Downs and KwaNobuhle.
