The community of Vumbu and surrounding areas, are waiting to receive three production boreholes and a 250,000-litre steel water tank.
This follows a meeting with the UThukela District Municipality, on Thursday, where the community was brought up to speed about water supply.
Sanele Zikalala, PMU Manager, said project delays were caused by Eskom power connection challenges, which prevented the service provider from continuing with installations. Administrative processes, paperwork and payments, caused further delays.
The meeting, was held at Vumbu Primary School, and attended by community members, traditional leaders, municipal officials, and the Ward Councillor.
“We will utilise generators to power the boreholes while awaiting the permanent electricity supply. Water tanks will be installed from 20 July 2026, to enable the community to start receiving water. The borehole system is expected to be fully operational at the beginning of August 2026” he said.
