Maintenance of Zwartkopjes and Eikenhof system begins on Monday, 30 June 2025 at 5am until 02nd July 2025.

The maintenance project which commenced on Thursday, 29 May 2025, forms part of Rand Water’s maintenance project.

In an upcoming maintenance phase, scheduled for Monday, the 30th June, pumping capacity will be reduced at the Eikenhof, Zwartkopjes, and Palmiet systems. 

Consequently, areas within the cities of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane may experience low water pressure or intermittent supply. 

Rand Water said maintenance may also impact water supply to the local municipalities of Rand West, Mogale City, Merafong, Madibeng, Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Rustenburg, Royal Bafokeng, and nearby mines and industries.

Eastern Cape, Peddie, Buffalo City

Amatola Water Board said it can now resume pumping water at 50 percent of the required supply level.
This follows a major breakdown at Peddie and Craighead pump station, in the week.

The water board said a motor is being repaired, and is expected to be installed by Tuesday 01st July 2025. 

Once the installation is completed, water pumped can increase up to 80% of supply.

Affected areas are Peddie and Tsholomnqa.
Elsewhere in Buffalo City Municipality, Amatola Water Board said the maintenance work at the Nahoon Dam Water Treatment Works was extended due to unforeseen circumstances.

The planned shutdown of the system began on the 25 June 2025 at 06:00am.

“Our technical team has been working tirelessly throughout the night to resolve critical issues at the Nahoon Dam Water Treatment Works. We understand the importance of this matter and are committed to keeping you informed.”

Affected areas are Mdantsane and Newlands.

Free State, Mangaung

The Welbedacht Pipeline Phase 1 project was officially launched and handed over, on Saturday, the 28th June 2025.

The project, to benefit communities of Mangaung, in the Free State, was funded by the Department of Water and Sanitation South Africa, who appointed Vaal Central Water as an implementing agent.

Pemmy Majodina, Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation, did the handover, accompanied by the Cassel Mathale, Deputy Minister of Police.Dignitaries attending the ceremony, were the Free State Premier, Queen Letsoha-Mathae,  Saki Mokoena, MEC Cogta and Gregory Nthatisi, Mayor of Mangaung, Advocate Makhosini Msibi -Board Chairperson at the Vaal Central Water and Luvuyo Ntoyi-CEO.

Clanwilliam, West Coast, Western Cape

The Clanwilliam Municipality said the water filtration project, is around 80% complete.

Gerrit Matthyse, Municipal Manager at the Cederberg Municipality, said milestones include the first incision made in the Sederville, Khayalitsha, Crystal Waters section, on the May 29. 

“On the 19 June, the next main line was taken, covering the CBD, Augsburg, Reenblom Street to De Vlei Street, Hospital Street.”

He said the final cut is planned for July 1, connecting the purified water to the network.
After completion, the filter banks will be connected, and clean drinking water will be supplied to residents.
