The Nelson Mandela Bay’s daily water use is currently at 361 million litres per day (MLD), up from the target of 280 million litres per day (MLD).

The City has expressed concern, that usage is far exceeding supply, by 81 MLD.

Water in the main dams (Churchill, Impofu, Loerie, Kouga and Groendal) is also decreasing, with a combined total of 50,46%. This is an equivalent of 142,070 Ml.

The City said this is about 475 days of water, if we all stakeholders play their part in using the resource sparingly.

The City said in a brief “every litre saved brings us closer to water security. Let’s stay within the target, use water responsibly, and make every drop count for our future.”

Residents are urged to shorten showers, reuse water where possible, report and fix leaks urgently and use water wisely.
