The National Research Foundation (NRF) and South Africa’s minerals research organisation-Mintek, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, 29 May 2025.
NRF’s Dr Fulufhelo Nelwamondo, said at the signing ceremony, the MoU represents a significant step towards fostering innovation, scientific excellence, and sustainable progress in South Africa’s mining industry.
“Through this collaboration, the two organisations aim to leverage their respective strengths to jointly tackle key industry challenges and promote inclusive economic development” he said.
The two will tackle research in advanced biotechnology, minerals processing, cutting edge and smart-mining technologies such as automation, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, as well as environmental sustainability.
