Dam levels in the Western Cape, are at a collective, 49.65%.
The Provincial Department of the Western Cape wrote to residents on Tuesday, “we have dipped below the 50% mark for the provincial dam level, which is far lower than we should be at this time of year.
The time to save water is now.”
Residents are urged to use water sparingly.
The department continued to write “to protect our water supply, we urgently need everyone, to save water every day, not just now, but as a permanent habit.
Every litre saved now helps protect our water security in the weeks ahead.
Small changes across thousands of households make a big difference.”
Small daily steps would include keeping showers short, turn off taps while brushing teeth or washing dishes, only run full loads in washing machines and dishwashers, water gardens early morning or evening, not midday, fix leaking taps and toilets immediately and reuse greywater where possible.
