Johannesburg Water announced it would close Sandton meters on Tuesday evening, from 4pm until 4am.
The water utility said this is a necessary intervention to manage supply to all systems.
Affected areas are those supplied by Linbro Park feed and reservoir, Marlboro feed and reservoir, Illovo reservoir and Tower, Bryanston reservoir and Tower and Morningside reservoir.
Restoration is expected to take a few hours after 4am on Wednesday morning.
