Three people were killed in an earthquake, northern Venezuela, west of Caracas, on Wednesday evening.
Delcy Rodríguez, Acting Venezuelan President, confirmed rescue efforts are underway.
The earthquake was measured at 7.5.
An aftershock about 39 seconds later, followed, at 7.2.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said there is a high probability that many people might be injured.
USGS also said Northern Venezuela has a history of large, damaging earthquakes.
However, in the immediate 250 km vicinity of these June 24, 2026, earthquakes, there have only been seven M6 and larger earthquakes in the past century.
