The Department of Education in Limpopo confirmed over 200 schools across the province remain closed, this week, due to inaccessibility and bad roads.

Some 91 of 305 schools did not open after floods in the Mopani East District, due to inaccessible roads.

The Department also said 18 schools in the Mopani West Education District, also remained closed, for the same reason.

About 172 of 550 schools in Vhembe East District were also closed.

Another 164 out of 413 schools, in Vhembe West Education District, and 7 in the Sekhukhune East District.

In addition, closed and inaccessible roads are expected to affect School Nutrition Service providers and Learner Transport services.

The Department’s Isaac Mahlangu, said work is underway with relevant stakeholders, including local municipalities, disaster management teams, traditional leadership, community structures and service providers, to ensure schooling resumes in flood stricken areas.
