A Green Hydrogen Summit organised by the Presidential Climate Commission, is expected to shed light on the level of community involvement in the generation and supply of Green hydrogen products.

Ahead of the Summit, scheduled for Thursday afternoon, the 12 June, at Century City in Cape Town, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Minister of Electricity and Energy, conducted a site tour at Isondo Precious Metals, at the OR Tambo Special Economic Zone, in Kempton Park, Gauteng.

Isondo Precious Metals (IPM), is a 4IR company based in South Africa, focusing on the hydrogen -turning catalysts and Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEA) for Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Electrolysers & Fuel Cells.
Isondo is a Zulu word for wheels.

Vinay Somera, Chief Executive Officer of Isondo Precious Metals (IPM) said the company already has a Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HRS) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) project, located 12kms from the airport.

The project uses 7 tons per day of hydrogen, using solar energy and can fuel up to 400 fuel cell trucks/buses in phase one at a price that is equivalent to a diesel truck/bus operation on a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) basis.

This project will produce between 40 000 to 80 000 tons of carbon per year, enough to decarbonise the Johannesburg vehicle fleet.

The company’s second project offers the platform to accelerate the assembly of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) in SA.
