South Africa has secured a total of 30 Megawatts and about 1,440 MW/hour of storage capacity in the country’s first grid-scale bid window.
This follows the signing of agreements with EDF International and partners Mulilo, Gibb-Crede, Pele Green Energy and a Community Trust.
Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, said on Monday, the projects will attract a total investment of R4. 7 billion.
The agreement with EDF and partners, is expected to yield 180MW/720MW/h storage on the national grid, from the Northern Cape, where projects are located.
The other agreement, is with Oasis Aggeneis, expected to deliver about 77MW/308MW/h and will be located at the Aggeneus substation.
Oasis Nieuwehoop, located close to Kenhardt, has the capacity to supply 103MW/412MW/h.
Project construction is expected to be completed in the next 24 months, and storage capacity by November 2026.
