Two suspects were apprehended by police in illegal sand mining related activities, in Tswinga Village, Sibasa, Limpopo.
The police said other suspects fled the scene, but mining equipment was recovered. Items seized at the location, are two wheelbarrows, five spades, seven steel brick molders, one panga (machete) and one pick.
Lieutenant- Colonel Masekela Magoro, said in a statement, on Wednesday, a Vala Umgodi Task Team, approached suspects at an unauthorized sand mining site, around midday on Monday. The suspects fled the scene, but two hours later, around 14:30, the police proceeded to another suspicious activity in a nearby area, where they arrested two suspects.
“We call upon community members to assist law enforcement by reporting any illegal mining activities or related concerns to the appropriate authorities” said Magoro.
