The first phase of the Machibini Bulk Water Supply Scheme, is expected to be handed over to the local community in the Jozini Local Municipality, on Tuesday morning.
David Mahlobo, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation and Siphile Mdaka, uMkhanyakude District Municipality Mayor, are expected to officiate the hand over.
The Department of Water Affairs, said the Water Supply Scheme, is part of the Department’s Section 63 intervention in the district municipality and is being implemented by uMngeni-uThukela Water.
The R50 million project was funded through the Water Services Infrastructure Grants (WSIG).
Part of the project was also to refurbish and upgrade existing infrastructure to improve water supply to the Machibini area in Jozini, as well as the construction of bulk pipelines that will transfer water from the old and new Jozini treatment plant to various reservoirs.
The project scope extended to the construction of 49 communal standpipes; leak repairs and integrity improvement of the bulk pipelines between Jozini distribution and Machibini reservoirs.
The Scheme is expected to alleviate water supply challenges for 600 households in the Jozini area.
