Infrastructure and Engineering directorate of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, said a tipoff from local residents, has paid off, resulting in the closure of a dubious business in the area.
The Metro joint forces with the police, to closely monitor a local business selling processed water.
In a statement, the Metro said water consumption of the property was way too high.
In addition, an illegal bypass connected to the municipal pipeline, was found at the property.
Authorities also noticed 15 Jojo tanks and water trucks filled up water at the premises of the dubious company, daily.
The Metro said further investigation will be done by Algoa Park SAPS, but current charges against the company, include damage to infrastructure, illegal bypass of municipal pipelines and tampering with evidence.
In another building, the same business owner makes cold meats and russians (sausages)which are sold to the public.
The staff on the premises were all discovered to be illegal immigrants and were detained.
The owner was also charged for employing illegal workers.
The staff were found sleeping on the premises with bathrooms and showers in the area where the meat is being prepared.
This is not compliant with health and safety measures, also the workers process food without protective clothing.
