Residents of Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, are breathing a sigh of relief, at the hope presented by the completion of the Water Treatment Works Phase 2 Project.

Amatola Water Board’s Jonathan Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, said the completed water plant will supply about 20ML per day to residents and businesses in Makhanda (Grahamstown).

“We have not only managed to increase the plant capacity from 10 ml to 20 Ml per day, since August last year, but we have now completed an essential automation phase to realize that water capacity is available within the Makana Local Municipality” said Jackson.

The final phase of the project is expected to be completed in November 2024.

Jackson also said the responsibility to maintain and supply water to residents lies with the Makana Municipality.
