The North West Provincial and Local Governments are working together to unlock years of water security in that province.
In July, media reported surface water was limited and the drilling boreholes, is a necessity.

Resident Bronson Paul Westbrook, resident of the North West, took a picture of an old vessel, that can be seen when water levels are frighteningly low, and posted it on social media, earlier this month.

Another resident from the area, Thabo Ditsele, wrote a lengthy public letter two days ago, about the poor quality of tap water.

Now the Department says its Operation Bulela Metsi (direct translation is make way for water) project will enhance access to consistent and reliable water supply.

It has a medium term goal to construct a reservoir in Ikageng to provide at least 25 mega litres of water.

Some 100 job opportunities for residents, will also be created.

The Department also said Senzo Mchunu, Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation, conducted oversight inspections of other bulk water projects currently underway in Moretele Local Municipality, in the North West.

These include a reservoir in Moretele, which will receive water from the Klipdrift Water Treatment Works, and then supply villages in the South, through a 36-kilometer pipeline, also under construction.

Upon completion, the project is expected to supply some 52 914 household.

There is another construction of Phase 2 of the Mafenya to Tlhabane project in Rustenburg. It includes the construction of a new 30 mega litres reservoir.
The completed project will supply 36, 047 households in Rustenburg.
