Rand Water said it is planning to cut bulk water supplied to Merafong Local Municipality’s (“MLM”), West of Johannesburg, due to an unmet debt obligation.
Rand Water said months of discussions with the Municipality, were fruitless, and no amicable solution, was found.
In addition, on the 12 June 2025, the Johannesburg High Court gave the Municipality 30 (“thirty”) days, to write to Rand Water by the 30 July 2025, detailing a payment plan.
Rand Water, said this was done haphazardly after the court’s deadline.
The reduction in water supply by 20%, will lead to Merafong residents and businesses, having low-pressure.
It owes Rand Water R1 412 550 670.18 (One Billion, Four Hundred and Twelve Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy Rand and Eighteen Cents).
