Security guards and cleaners are protesting outside the Municipality’s offices in Boksburg.

They want the Municipality to hire them permanently.

Phumlani Vikilahle, of the Municipality’s Security services, said in addition, they are protesting for a salary adjustment of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police and for this service to receive overtime.

Employees of Harambe, who are subcontracted by the Municipality, want the Municipality to absorb them into posts they are hired against.

Bua Fela (anonymous), said some of the people protesting today applied for those positions, but were told they needed qualifications, but new recruits from the Eastern Cape, do not have them either.

Now they suspect there might be nepotism, and demand the Municipality stops advertising positions, in favour of insourcing.

Vilakahle says the matter was taken to the Bargaining Council, recently, but no resolution was reached.
