Two male suspects were arrested for the possession of 28 rolls of copper cable, on Saturday, by the Waterberg Task Team, Northam Crime Prevention Unit, Northam Rural Safety, Northam Y Cops, and Amandelbult Protection Services.

Cops encountered the two, carrying a red bag. Upon searching it, they found 28 rolls of copper cable inside, estimated at R3 500.00.

Suspects are between the ages of 42 and 65 years.

Speaking about the arrest,  Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, applauded the multi-disciplinary forces’ impact in the fight against all forms of criminality in the province.

“The importance of collaboration in fighting crime in the province cannot be overemphasised. The role of various stakeholders is equally important, and it serves as a force multiplier in our quest to fight crime. This is bearing fruit and creating a crime-free environment,” concluded General Hadebe.

The two suspects are expected to appear at the local Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

Four more male suspects, aged between 33 and 48, were also arrested on the R30 road in Bothaville, after they were found in possession of copper cable and counterfeit goods.

The police said in a statement, they received information about a vehicle involved in copper cable theft in various policing precincts. The vehicle fitting the description was later spotted and stopped on the R30 road near the traffic department.

Upon searching the vehicle, burnt copper cable and counterfeit goods were found.

The four suspects were then arrested and are to appear in the Bothaville Magistrate’s Court.
