King Litsie the third of Lesotho and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, inaugurated the Polihali bridge, alongside dignitaries from both governments and the water sector.

Now completed, it is part of the second phase of the Lesotho Highlands Project, connecting the northern and southern banks of the Polihali Reservoir.

It is now Lesotho’s first and longest bridge, at 825 metres.

Its construction began in 2023 and was completed in February 2026.

The Highlands project to transfer water to South Africa while improving Lesotho’s infrastructure, is now just over 50% complete.

Once fully completed around 2028, some 780-million to 800-million cubic metres of water annually, will be transferred from Lesotho to South Africa.
