Residents of Pretoria have expressed mixed feelings about the City of Tshwane’s system alternation approach, which kicked off this week.

While some residents of Atteridgeville (like Ishmael Mphahlele) have expressed relief at some water trickling out of taps, others took to social media to express their dissatisfaction of the system.

The City said through this approach, it would restrict some of its reservoirs, to balance and stabilise the system.

In a statement, the City said it would ensure no water flows into throttled reservoirs, to bring struggling ones to recovery.

Areas where this is evident, are in Laudium/Atteridgeville, now supplied through the Heights reservoir.
Technicians close the Heights reservoir at night and redirect flow to the Laudium /Atteridgeville system.

This is expected to go on daily until there is sufficient supply.

The City has also urged residents in low-lying areas of the network, to use water wisely, to allow the gradual recovery of reservoirs.
