The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality has notified residents in Carolina and Silobela, not to drink water without boiling it.

Ephraim Thabethe, the Municipality’s Manager, said water would be rationed for residents of Wards 15, 21 and 22, on Tuesday from 6am until 4pm.

“During this time, no irrigation or watering is allowed, using drinking water.
No washing of vehicles and no use of municipal water to fill up swimming pools would be allowed.”

He said the Municipality would work on strengthening the treatment process on ground and surface water.

” At this stage, there is no confirmation that the water is safe for consumption.”

This is the third notice issued by the Municipality cautioning against the possibility of contaminated water.

Back in August 2024, the Municipality’s Ephraim Thabethe, Municipal Manager of Chief Albert Luthuli, said the town continues to implement mitigating strategies on the challenges of water supply in Carolina Ward 15,21 and 22.
