Residents are advised to store up water, ahead of planned supply interruptions, as a result of ongoing repair work on the Sundays River Canal.
Mthubanzi Mniki, Spokesperson of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) said the second phase repair work, scheduled for next week, will affect water supply to the following areas: Motherwell, Wells Estate, BluewaterBay, Arcadia, Bethelsdorp, Chatty, Kwadwesi, Joe Slovo, Perseverance, Despatch and Fairbridge Height.
Work is expected to begin on Monday, the 29 July 2024 and will last for seven days.
Mniki detailed the scope of the work as the installation of a sub-soil drainage system in the downstream tie-in, the reinforcement of the HDPE liner on both the upstream and downstream tie-in and more.
“The purpose of this shutdown for 7 days, is to secure the tie-in infrastructure until the permanent concrete sections can be installed during the next available shutdown period during June/July 2025.”
He said water trucks will be available at locations closest to the affected residents or businesses to mitigate the impact of the shutdown. Truck positions will be
communicated on the NMBM social media platforms.
