Titus Mathe, CEO of the South African Energy Development Institute (Sanedi), said the country should focus on fixing current assets, including Medupi, Kusile, Koeberg power stations. He was speaking to media at the South African Energy Efficiency Conference.
He also said “we need more done on rooftop solar, put more wind farms, invest in research and development to prepare ourselves for the green hydrogen economy.”
Green hydrogen can be used in various sectors including household, transportation, and for generating electricity.
Mathe said lower hanging fruits to secure energy, include investment in gas to power technologies and also to fix Eskom.
