Flood victims in Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape, were relocated to Innoview Lodge, where they will be temporarily housed.

The Department of Human Settlements, in partnership with OR Tambo District Municipality, relocated the flood victims on Wednesday, from a community hall.

About 1,806 families were affected by last week’s flood, while 90 bodies were recovered from the floods. 

Thembi Simelane, Minister of Human Settlements, is currently on a three-day visit to assess progress and oversee interventions aimed at assisting affected families.

Non-governmental organisations such as Gift of the Givers, Shoprite, and various government departments are also on the ground, providing essential support and relief to the victims.

Mourners will gather at 11am on Thursday morning, at the King Sabatha Dalindyebo College to mourn lives lost in the floods.
