Sasol Chemicals launched a new rapeseed oil-based alternative, on Monday, for the personal care industry.

NACOL 18-98, a palm-free, biobased stearyl alcohol solution, reduces environmental impact, supports compliance with European Union’s deforestation regulations and delivers superior sustainability performance.

Exclusively based on segregated rapeseed oil, NACOL 18-98, is a renewable resource grown locally in Europe, ensuring a significantly lower product carbon footprint compared to palm-based alternatives.
This new formulation is a drop-in replacement and can seamlessly integrate into existing formulations, ensuring the same performance.

The EUDR requires companies importing palm oil and derivatives into the EU to prove, through detailed traceability, that their products are not sourced from deforested land.

Louis Snyders, Vice President Care Chemicals, said “this latest formulation embodies Sasol’s commitment to providing sustainable solutions to our customers. Responding to the EU’s Deforestation Regulation, we developed this as a readily available alternative to palm oil derivatives.”

Snyder said the product has 100 percent natural content, empowering formulators to meet demands of environmentally conscious consumers while complying with evolving regulations.
In addition, the product has tremendous versatility and can function as a conditioning agent, stabilizer, consistency regulator, structuring agent and opacifier in conditioners and moisturizers for personal care.

“At Sasol, we offer a broad range of alcohols, and as we continue to evolve our product portfolio, we continue to seek natural and bio-based ingredients as alternatives to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals.”
