People living on the banks of the Inkobongo and Nahoon Rivers are urged not to hang around the water bodies from Monday, the 16th February 2026.
This is because Amatola Water Board will be releasing water from Wriggleswade Dam, via the canal, into the upper reaches of both, the Inkobongo and Nahoon Rivers, to the Nahoon Dam.
The aim of this exercise, is to supplement the available water storage within the Nahoon Dam.
The water will be released at a maximum rate of 3 cubic meters per second (3 m³/sec).
It is expected that the release will be ongoing for an undetermined period.
So the water board has urged children, not to play at the river banks or near the Wriggleswade canal infrastructure.
Residents and visitors, not to cross the river on relevant bridges and not through the flowing rivers.
Farmers are to ensure that their pumps are placed in a safe position and keep livestock safe.
